1987, Christmas Eve, Kaiserslautern, Germany. My parents decide to take me to dinner for my birthday. Every place is closed. In the end, we settle on Wendy’s, starting a life-long tradition.
Venison backstrap sous vide and pan seared with a pepper and salt crust, and served with a red wine reduction; cranberry compote; Brussels sprouts with bacon and walnuts.
Gregory gobbled down most of Sara’s cut and then proceeded to wolf down much of the bacon.
The Oxorcist II Imperial Pumpkin Ale by Old Ox Brewery – pumpkin, Vermont maple syrup, pumpkin spices, vanilla bean. Good flavors, a bit flat for even an Imperial Stout. Very strong 9.4% ABV but not overoowerinf; 12 IBUs which is a nice counter to the ridiculous hopped up American stouts. Perhaps we should have saved it for Friday night and @theexorcistfox bit it sounded good tonight.
